Service Description

The AmeriCorps Creative Communications Specialist will support storytelling and communications efforts that highlight AmeriCorps programming at The Nature Place. Through digital storytelling, photography, video, and written content, the member will help share the impact of AmeriCorps service in environmental education, community programs, and land stewardship initiatives.

This position is ideal for someone interested in communications, photography/videography, nonprofit storytelling, environmental education, and digital media who wants to build professional skills while contributing to meaningful environmental education work.

Site Overview

The Nature Place (TNP) is a nature-focused community center open to the public, located in beautiful Myrick Park in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Our mission is to inspire and cultivate meaningful connections between people and nature, for the benefit of both. We offer nature education programs and community events for all ages and our unique space is available to visit during open hours or to rent for special events and meetings. The Nature Place is your space, year-round, rain or shine.

Responsibilities

  • Create written and visual content highlighting AmeriCorps members and program impact for The Nature Place’s social media
  • Write blog posts, member spotlights, and community stories for a variety of platforms
    Capture photography and produce short videos reels of programs and service projects
  • Assist with social media content strategy and planning related to AmeriCorps programming
    Help maintain The Nature Place’s website pages and contribute to newsletters
    Support communications campaigns that increase awareness of AmeriCorps service opportunity

Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest in communications, photography, video production, journalism, or graphic design
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Basic familiarity with social media platforms
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Passion for land stewardship, environmental education, and community engagement

Impact

  • This role will help expand awareness of AmeriCorps service opportunities, elevate the stories of members serving in the community, and increase participation in environmental education programming for The Nature Place.

Service Hours: 450 hours | ~40 hours/week

 

Benefits:

Weekly living stipend of $430 (paid biweekly)

$1,956.35 Education Award upon successful completion of service
