SUMMARY:Enviro-Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:June 4\, 2024 Enviro-Wednesdays Program\n\n7:00 pm\n\nMeet at t
he SW entrance to the student union on the UWL Campus (inside in the event
  of rain): https://www.uwlax.edu/map/\n\n\n\n\nMap - UWL Campus Map - UW-L
a Crosse\n\nSpread your wings as a UW-La Crosse Eagle! Experience the powe
r of a UWL education through high-impact learning and life-long friendship
s\, all while surrounded by the epic beauty of La Crosse.\n\nwww.uwlax.edu
\n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAlysa Remsburg will lead a Hinukwas Tree Trail walk on
the UWL campus that celebrates native tree diversity and the significance
of trees to Ho-Chunk people.  The new Hįnųkwas Tree Trail signage and w
ebsite encourages walkers to explore how trees are known by different nam
es. While we learn about trees\, we have opportunities to strengthen our
relationships with both human and more-than-human members of our community
. We will begin to learn some Ho-Chunk tree names and stories.  The Ho-Ch
unk Nation engages in efforts to preserve their heritage\, language\, and
traditions while fostering community development.   The idea for this tr
ee trail originated when Robin Wall Kimmerer visited UWL’s campus in spr
ing 2024.  One of the reasons her writing is so profound is that it uplif
ts traditional ecological knowledge\, including stories\, beliefs\, and sk
ills held by indigenous people around the world.  As stewards of the land
and all its inhabitants for millennia\, indigenous voices have much to te
ach the rest of us about sustainability\, relationships\, and resilience.
We can begin by learning some names and relationships with “tree peo
ple\,” as Kimmerer refers to our tree kin.  \n\nEnviro-Wednesdays is an
adult (ages 14+) nature series on the first Wednesday of every month at 7
PM at The Nature Place (unless otherwise noted). Free\, no registration n
ecessary. Brought to you by The Nature Place and Friends of the Marsh. Jo
in us to enhance your nature knowledge. Different topics and speakers ever
 y month!
